He went back to his old school with ₦5 million (about $3,300) — for the students who sit where he sat

Noel Alumona once sat in the classrooms of St Patrick's Secondary School in Obollo-Afor, Enugu State, Nigeria. This week he returned with a five-year promise: the Noel Ifeanyi Alumona Impact Fund, whose 2026 edition handed out scholarships and awards worth ₦5 million (about $3,300). Six students — among them Chidiebere Victory, Zita Ogbonna and Catherine Egwu — received full one-year scholarships based on need; classmates were honoured for science, humanities and community impact; and three teachers, Mary Obule, Elizabeth Ugwu and Amos-Glory Obinna, each received an Outstanding Teachers Award with ₦100,000 (about $65). 'Reward excellence, appreciate teachers' is Alumona's formula — and former students are being rallied to rebuild the school that raised them.

The upbeat factorgratitude with a budget line — an old boy funding the next child's school fees and the teachers who stay late.
