Heavier than a rhino: a Hampshire pumpkin smashes its own world record

Ian Paton of Hampshire has done it again. A year after he and his twin brother Stuart grew the heaviest pumpkin in recorded history, Ian's new giant — nicknamed Bagheera — weighed in at 1,295.8 kg (2,856 lb), about 20 kg heavier than last year's champion and, as judges noted, heavier than a white rhino. Twenty years of patient growing, distilled into one enormous orange.

The upbeat factorthe heaviest fruit in Earth's history — grown in a Hampshire patch, with love.
