High in the Himalayas, India is building a medicine centre for the mountains themselves
Union Health Minister JP Nadda is laying the foundation stone in Keylong, in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district, for India's first dedicated centre for high-altitude medicine and public-health research. It will study how thin mountain air shapes bodies and minds — maternal and child health, nutrition, mental health and disaster medicine — and pioneer drone-delivered healthcare and telemedicine for Himalayan and tribal communities a long way from the nearest doctor.
The upbeat factormedicine is finally climbing to where the mountain people live.
