Humans flew around the Moon for the first time in over 50 years

On April 1, 2026, NASA's Artemis II carried four astronauts — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen — on a 10-day voyage around the Moon and back, the first crewed lunar mission since Apollo 17. At their farthest, they traveled 252,756 miles from Earth, a new human distance record. Half a century of waiting ended with a splashdown in the Pacific.
