In Santa Lucía, the clinic now travels — health teams go door to door for children and mothers

Moisés Sanabria travels about two hours to reach his workplace in Santa Lucía del Tuy, Venezuela — and then the real journey begins. At 8 a.m. the community health worker sets out with doctors and vaccinators as part of the Mobile Basic Health Teams, visiting families who struggle to afford transport or medicines. In Santa Lucía, an outreach session supported by UNICEF brings 12 professionals — paediatrics, obstetrics, nutrition and more — into a health facility that had fallen out of use, so families can get check-ups, antenatal care and vaccinations in a single visit, close to home. Nurse Francisca Guilarte, who organises the sessions, starts work at least 15 days before the first family arrives.

The upbeat factorwhen families cannot reach the clinic, the clinic packs a bag and comes to them.
