In Tanzania, young farmers are swapping one rainy harvest for three sunny ones

In Morogoro, Tanzania, young farmers are learning to farm on their own schedule. Dronlytics Technologies and Azania Bank are building a loan facility for small-scale farmers in the Block Farm Programme — combining land leasing, solar-powered irrigation, guaranteed crop buyers and structured finance. Solar irrigation is designed to lift harvests from one rain-fed cycle a year to as many as three, while saving 67% of water and 30% of fertiliser. The government's Building a Better Tomorrow programme enrolled 2,437 young people and women for 2026/27, each starting with two months of agribusiness training.

The upbeat factorsunshine and skill, turning one harvest a year into three.
