In Tema, October means free breast cancer screening for every woman who walks in

The International Maritime Hospital in Tema has turned the whole month of October into an open door. Under its 2026 Pink October campaign, 'Early Action, Better Outcomes', the hospital is offering free breast cancer screening all month, plus discounted mammograms and ultrasounds and outreach across communities. The stakes are real: Ghana recorded an estimated 5,487 new breast cancer cases and 2,695 deaths in 2024, and survival climbs dramatically when cancer is caught early. Meanwhile, the BEAT Breast Cancer Project — run with Ghana Health Service and Jhpiego — is training providers across Ashanti, Northern and Greater Accra regions to spot the disease sooner. A month, a message, and thousands of free screenings: that's a campaign with a pulse.

The upbeat factorcatching cancer early is a kind of everyday miracle — and this October, it's free.
