India beamed an unhackable key through open air — 5.56 km
Indian researchers demonstrated the country's first free-space quantum key distribution link over 5.56 kilometers — a way to send encryption keys on particles of light so secure that eavesdropping is physically impossible. The achievement, listed in a Ministry of Electronics and IT release on October 3, pairs QNu Labs with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and IIT Gandhinagar.
