Jakarta's retractable-roof stadium just won a world engineering prize

The Jakarta International Stadium has won its category at the Bentley Year in Infrastructure Awards 2026, held in Singapore on October 7, with its giant retractable-roof engineering recognized in the structural engineering category. The award was accepted by the team from PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk (WIKA Gedung), one of the project's main contractors. The 2026 awards drew more than 300 project submissions from 53 countries, with only 36 finalists across 12 categories; the WIKA Gedung team said it used artificial intelligence during engineering and construction to cut the risk of errors in the roof project.
