Jonathan the 194-year-old tortoise is aging slower than he should

Jonathan is a contemporary of Charles Darwin and Queen Victoria — and he's still munching grass on St. Helena in the South Atlantic. The 194-year-old giant tortoise, the oldest known living land animal, has been studied by Cambridge scientists this week in the journal Science Advances. Their finding: his gene regulation looks like that of a very young animal, meaning he's not just lucky — he's genuinely aging more slowly than scientists expected. In his 144 years on the island, he's still, reportedly, interested in the ladies.
