Kentucky's readers climb to recent highs — and 94.1% graduate on time
Kentucky's latest state assessment results, released on 15 October, carry a clear bright line: reading proficiency climbed to recent highs at every level. Half of elementary pupils now read at proficient or distinguished level, up from 45% in 2022; middle-school reading is up four points over the same span; and high-school reading peaked at 49%. The state's four-year graduation rate improved to 94.1%, and the number of schools earning the highest rating for postsecondary readiness rose from 122 to 151. Maths results were flat to slightly down, which state officials say is the next target — but the reading climb, built since 2022, held.
The upbeat factorfour years of patient literacy work, visible in the numbers — more Kentucky children reading well, and finishing school.
