Korea's $5 million will keep meals coming for more than 462,000 refugees in Bangladesh
In the learning centres of Cox's Bazar, 260,000 children will keep getting school meals — thanks to a country that was once an aid recipient itself. The Republic of Korea has given $5 million to the UN World Food Programme in Bangladesh, sustaining food assistance, nutrition services and school feeding for more than 462,000 Rohingya refugees over the next 12 months. The funding covers e-voucher food assistance for 164,000 vulnerable people, nutrition support for 36,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women, and school meals for 260,000 children. "As the Rohingya crisis approaches its tenth year, continued international support is essential to protect lives and uphold dignity," said WFP's Coco Ushiyama. Ambassador Kim Ji-joon noted Korea was "once" a receiver of such help: "Having once received international support, the Republic of Korea is proud to now stand alongside WFP."
