Light can now be given a 'handedness' with just a twist of geometry
Researchers at the University of East Anglia and South Africa's Wits University found that light can develop left- or right-handed spin on its own, controlled simply by the beam's shape — no special materials or lenses needed. The trick could sharpen drug detection and pack more data into fiber-optic cables.
