Listening to a baby's heart and brain together may help doctors understand fragile beginnings
Doctors caring for babies born with heart conditions know the brain needs watching too. In a peer-reviewed Scientific Reports study, researchers in China analysed heart and sleep brain-wave recordings from 30 infants and toddlers and found the heart's signals linked more strongly to brain activity in babies with heart disease. It is early, exploratory work — not a test yet — but it points to gentler ways of spotting which babies need extra developmental support.
The upbeat factora closer listen to heart and brain together could mean earlier help for the smallest patients.
