'Loki the Sea Cucumber' and 56 other new neighbors from the deep

Twenty taxonomists spent two weeks in Buenos Aires poring over specimens hauled from Argentina's Mar del Plata submarine canyon by a remotely operated vehicle — and confirmed 57 species new to science: 20 copepods, 22 sea cucumbers and sea lilies, 14 corals and sea pens, and a mollusc. The star: a horned deep-sea sea cucumber nicknamed 'Loki.' Every finding is logged openly online for anyone on Earth to explore.
