Mapping the pain: a first close-up of how endometriosis lesions talk to nerves

For more than a century, endometriosis pain was described but never truly seen. Researchers at The Jackson Laboratory, including Caroline Haney and lead author Elise Courtois, have now mapped at cell level how lesions draw pain-sensing nerves toward them — and recreated the process with lab-grown nerve tissue, in Nature Communications. Seeing exactly which cells send the pain signals gives drug researchers concrete targets for relief that millions of women have waited far too long for.

The upbeat factorpain that was invisible for 100 years now has a map — and maps lead to treatments.
