Melbourne's next-generation tram was designed by 1,000 people — and it shows
Alstom's G Class tram has won the 2026 Australian Good Design Award for product design. The 25-metre, fully low-floor tram was shaped with more than 1,000 stakeholders — passengers, tram drivers and disability advocates — through 60-plus design refinements, about half of them for accessibility. Built with 65% local content, 100 trams are on order, with the first already arriving and up to 1,900 Victorian jobs supported.
The upbeat factorwhen a thousand voices shape one tram, everyone gets a smoother ride.
