Mona Agarwal climbed from fifth to gold — breaking her own teammate's Games record on the way
The final in Toyota, Japan, had a familiar shape — until it didn't. Mona Agarwal sat fifth in the women's 10m air rifle standing final at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, then climbed, shot by shot, to gold with 250.0 points — a new Games record, breaking the 249.6 mark set by her own teammate, Avani Lekhara, who took silver with 249.6. South Korea's Yunri Lee won bronze. Agarwal, a Paris 2024 Paralympic bronze medallist, had already topped qualifying with another Games record of 629.1. 'I just knew that I had to repeat my process,' she said. 'I stayed relaxed, and trusted myself.' The gold and silver were India's first medals of the Games.
The upbeat factorgold and silver, one-two, and a record passed hand to hand between champions.
