New carriages roll south: Bangladesh's railway modernisation reaches the Padma Bridge lines
Another consignment of new-generation passenger coaches, built at India's Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, has crossed the border at Darshana for Bangladesh Railway — the latest delivery in a plan to bring in 200 modern broad-gauge coaches. Supplies resumed in August after a gap of nearly a decade, and the new carriages are headed for routes in the southwest, including services over the Padma Rail Bridge, where they are expected to make journeys more reliable and comfortable. Each coach still faces inspection and technical checks before it carries its first passengers.
The upbeat factorafter a ten-year pause, the new trains are arriving again — 200 carriages of easier journeys.
