Nigeria connected nearly 2,000 schools — and a million students walked into digital classrooms

Nearly 2,000 Nigerian schools are now connected, around a million students reached, and more than 20,000 teachers supported — 19,000 of them trained in digital literacy — through a partnership between UNICEF, Airtel Africa and Nigeria's government, UNICEF reported this week. Behind the headline is the Nigeria Learning Passport, a free digital learning platform that has passed 2.5 million registered students, letting lessons continue on a phone or school computer where textbooks and connectivity are scarce. It is the unglamorous infrastructure of opportunity: a connection, a trained teacher, and a child who can keep learning.

The upbeat factora million students, one connection at a time — the classroom just got much bigger.
