Nine African businesses turning waste into industry join the AfDB's first AfriCircular cohort

The African Development Bank has welcomed the first nine companies into its AfriCircular Growth Programme, backing firms that turn waste into products across ten African countries. Nigeria's ColdHubs has preserved 13.8 million kilograms of food with solar-powered cold storage, and Kenya's Chemolex has converted about 45,000 tonnes of water hyacinth — a weed that chokes waterways — into biodegradable material, employing more than 1,600 women and young people.

The upbeat factorweeds, waste and spoiled harvests are becoming factories, jobs and income across Africa.
