Nine health workers, one new clinic, and a house so they can stay: care arrives in Uato-Haco

In the village of Uato-Haco, in Timor-Leste's Baucau municipality, getting to a doctor used to mean a long journey. On October 16, Health Minister Élia A. A. dos Reis Amaral opened the new Ariana Health Clinic there — and the detail that matters most may be the building next door: a residence for the clinic's nine health professionals, so the people providing care can actually live where they work. The clinic will follow children, pregnant women and older residents, and run outreach into surrounding communities, part of a national push to give every village of 1,500 to 2,000 people a clinic of its own.

The upbeat factora clinic that comes with a home for its healers — care designed to stay, not to visit.
