Nine Topeka groups share $36,500 in community grants over breakfast

Breakfast came with a boost for Topeka this morning. The Topeka Credit Union Foundation, formed by local credit unions in 2004, handed out $36,500 in grants to nine community organisations across northeast Kansas. The gifts reach everyday needs: $5,000 helps the Boys & Girls Club install an outdoor drinking-water station where children play, $5,000 supports a computer lab where adults with disabilities build job and money skills, $5,000 stocks a neighbourhood pantry with household essentials, and other grants back financial-literacy lessons for high school students, Medicare guidance for older adults, training for child-care directors, and books for students attending local theatre shows. Since 2004 the foundation has given out more than $549,697 in this shared, neighbour-to-neighbour way.

The upbeat factorsmall local grants, pooled by neighbours, landing exactly where daily life needs a hand.
