Norway gives its wild reindeer a recovery plan with 85 steps home
Norway's wild reindeer — among the last of their kind in Europe — are losing ground as roads, cabins and power projects slice their mountain ranges into pieces. In response, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has adopted a recovery plan for the Setesdal Ryfylke and Setesdal Austhei ranges: 85 measures in 11 packages to reopen migration routes, calm human disturbance and reconnect the landscapes the herds need to survive. The plan asks Norwegians to share beloved mountains more carefully — so the animals that defined them are still there for the next generation.
The upbeat factoreighty-five deliberate steps to hand a mountain back to the herds that belong there.
