NZ$174 million of backing for 300 megawatts of sunshine: Lightyears speeds up

Lightyears, a New Zealand renewables developer, has secured almost NZ$174 million in new backing to build more than 300 megawatts of solar and battery projects over the next five years: an $80 million (NZ$100 million) lending facility from Canberra-based Infradebt and a planned $59.4 million (NZ$74 million) investment from Japanese construction group Obayashi. 'That is the target — more than 300 MW over the next five years,' said managing director and co-founder Matt Shanks. The company's largest project so far, the 13.5-megawatt Reefton Solar Farm on the West Coast of the South Island, is under construction, with seven smaller farms already operating and a 28-project pipeline totalling about 338 megawatts.
