One hundred miles on a 150-year-old tricycle: Colin's thank-you to the clinic that saved his sight

Colin Bedford, 87, from March in Cambridgeshire, owes his sight to the Eye Clinic at Hinchingbrooke Hospital — over 11 years, the team there has given him his 100th eye injection. His thank-you was not a card. Since January, Colin has been riding 3 to 5 miles at a time on a fleet of vintage machines, including an 1866 'Boneshaker' and a century-old BSA, building toward a single goal: 100 sponsored miles for the clinic. He finished at the hospital itself, arriving on a 150-year-old tricycle, dressed in Victorian costume, cheered in by family, staff and the Mayor of Huntingdon. He has raised more than £2,500 (about $3,400) so far. Asked what he planned to do next, he grinned: 'I might go on a bike ride!' Gratitude, it turns out, can be measured in miles — and at 87, on a tricycle older than the hospital he was thanking, Colin Bedford just rode a hundred of them.

The upbeat factorgratitude with pedals — 100 miles of it, in Victorian dress, at 87.
