One institute for the whole journey of ageing, across 28 hospitals
Northwell Health, New York's largest health system, has brought its 28 hospitals, clinics and community programmes together into a single Institute for Healthy Aging, led by clinician-scientist Liron Sinvani. The idea is to change the question from 'how do we treat this illness?' to 'how does this person stay independent, safe and themselves?' — joining medical care with research on real-world ageing and practical help for the one in four adults who care for an older family member unpaid. The timing matters: more than 90% of older adults say they want to stay in their own homes as long as possible, and by 2034 Americans over 65 are projected to outnumber children for the first time in the country's history.
