One million degrees: Penn State's long promise to Pennsylvania hits a historic number
In 1861, Penn State's first class graduated 11 students. This summer, the university conferred its one-millionth degree — a milestone only a few universities in the world have reached. On October 20, Pennsylvania's House of Representatives formally adopted a resolution marking 'One Millionth Degree Day,' recognising the land-grant university's 171 years of expanding educational opportunity across the commonwealth. One million degrees means one million people carrying what they learned back into their communities.
The upbeat factor11 graduates became a million — education's compound interest, counted.
