One million kilowatt-hours from a stadium roof: London Stadium's solar skin passes a bright milestone
The roof of London Stadium now carries 3,350 solar panels woven into a 6,500-square-metre membrane — one of the largest stadium solar installations in Europe — and it has just passed 1 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity generated. In June 2026 alone, the panels produced over 140,000 kWh, covering about a fifth of the venue's demand that month, while the stadium kept hosting top-level sport and concerts. The system anchors a £4.35 million (about $5.8 million) climate investment backed by the Mayor of London's Green Finance Fund. It is a working proof that the biggest roofs in a city can double as power stations.
The upbeat factora stadium famous for roaring crowds is now quietly making a fifth of its own sunshine-powered electricity.
