One patch that senses sugar, doses insulin, and decides: diabetes care may finally fit in a sticker

Living with type 1 diabetes means juggling two devices — a glucose sensor and an insulin pump — and doing the math yourself, all day. At the EASD diabetes congress in Milan this week, SiBionics and PharmaSens showed the first human feasibility data for 'niia signature,' a single wearable patch that senses, doses, and automatically steers blood sugar. The hard engineering question — does a fresh insulin dose confuse the sensor sitting right next to it? — came back reassuring: interference after a bolus was uncommon and cleared in about 20 minutes on average. It is investigational, not yet approved or for sale — but the direction of travel is clear: the exhaustion of diabetes management, shrinking toward a sticker.

The upbeat factorrelief you can stick on your skin — one patch doing the job of a small pharmacy.
