One rooftop, up to 15 homes: a solar-sharing box just took Australia's top design prize

Apartment residents have long watched house owners enjoy rooftop solar while they missed out — one roof, many separate power bills, no easy way to split the sunshine. A Melbourne-made system called SolShare fixes that by sending power from a single rooftop array to whichever apartments need it most, moment by moment. It has just won the top honour at the Australian Good Design Awards, plus the sustainability award, and its newer version lifts capacity by 36% and lets neighbours share a battery as well as the panels.

The upbeat factorone shared rooftop can now power a whole block — no one gets left out of the solar age.
