Ontario found a way to keep seniors home — and out of the ER

A new Ontario report on Enhanced Assisted Living shows how small housing-plus-care models let seniors avoid moving into long-term care too early: WoodGreen's cluster-care model has permanently diverted 83 percent of its residents from long-term care, while Bruyère Health's Ottawa model helped 168 residents avoid emergency-room visits over six years. Care runs about $92 to $169 Canadian (about $66 to $121) per client per day — far less than a hospital stay.
