Penguins got their breakfast on pumpkin platters: London Zoo's animals just had a Halloween feast

Halloween arrived early at London Zoo — and the residents approved. The colony of Humboldt penguins woke to a fishy breakfast served on pumpkin platters. Capybaras Kiwi and Gizmo put their foraging skills to work tracking down treats hidden in carved pumpkins, while the gorilla troop at Gorilla Kingdom — Kiburi, Effie, Mjukuu, Alika, Gernot and youngsters Venus and Juno — investigated a pumpkin patch of their own. Keepers lay scent trails and hide food inside the carvings on purpose: it coaxes the animals into using the natural instincts and skills they would use in the wild. This year the fun sits inside two birthdays — conservation charity ZSL's 200th anniversary, and 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh.
