Peru is bringing reproductive health care to the Amazon's most overlooked girls

In the rainforest regions of Amazonas and Ucayali, teenage girls from Awajún, Wampis, Asháninka and Shipibo-Konibo communities have long faced the steepest barriers to health care. Peru's health ministry and PAHO are now working directly with local health teams in Bagua, Condorcanqui, Chachapoyas, Coronel Portillo and Atalaya to reshape services around the girls' own needs, languages and cultures — part of a five-year effort running through 2030.
