Popeye waited in the corner kennel nobody visits. Then a volunteer gave him a day out — and he bloomed

Popeye, a pit bull at Los Angeles's Harbor Animal Care Center, has been waiting since August in a corner kennel where few visitors wander. Volunteer Jan decided he deserved an audience, so she took him on a doggie day out — neon adopt-me vest, rainbow hat and all. Out of the kennel he turned into a social butterfly, soaking up the park. Nobody stopped to adopt him that day, but Jan's video of his day has drawn a wave of love online — and every share is another chance someone finally sees him.
