R106 million (about $6 million) of sunshine, wheeled across Cape Town

Property group Redefine is investing R106 million (about $6 million) in a rooftop solar wheeling project in Cape Town: panels spread across about 57,000 square metres of roof at Brackengate will generate power that is 'wheeled' through the city's grid to three other properties. The project is expected to cut carbon emissions by more than 39,000 tonnes a year. Cape Town energy official Xanthea Limberg calls the city's pooled wheeling facility 'a decisive leap forward' for its 2050 Energy Strategy — buildings becoming power stations for other buildings.
