Reading the switches between genes: a machine-learning lens finds a hidden layer of human difference

Two people can share nearly identical DNA and still differ in how their genes switch on and off. A team publishing in the journal Cell built a machine-learning method that links small DNA changes to differences in those on-off switches, at a scale no one could check by eye. The hope is practical: spotting which genetic differences actually cause disease is an early step toward treatments that adjust the switches themselves.

The upbeat factora clearer map from DNA differences to disease is a first step toward fixing them.
