Relegated in 2023, champions in 2026: Wakefield complete rugby league's fairy tale

Three years ago Wakefield Trinity were relegated. On Saturday, in front of a sold-out Old Trafford and in the club's first Grand Final appearance ever, they beat Warrington Wolves 23–10 to become champions — leading 19–0 at half-time on tries from Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga, plus Max Jowitt's boot. Player of the match Tom Johnstone, who took the Rob Burrow Award, could barely speak: 'My dream the last 10 years was to win a Grand Final with Wakefield… I keep crying, I can't help myself.' Coach Daryl Powell summed up the arc: 'Where we've come from… we are a proper team.' The sixth different club to win the Super League — and the one that waited longest.

The upbeat factorjoy at belief surviving humiliation — three years from relegation to champions.
