Renewables supplied more than 28% of America's electricity in the first eight months of 2026
Federal Energy Information Administration data, reviewed by the SUN DAY Campaign, show renewable sources generated more than 28% of US electricity from January to August 2026, up from about 26% in the same months of 2025 — while total generation grew only modestly, meaning wind, solar and water did most of the expanding. Wind produced about a tenth of the nation's power and solar nearly as much again; together they delivered roughly a fifth of all electricity, more than coal and more than nuclear. Renewable generation overall rose just over 10% year on year, while coal output fell by nearly 9%.
The upbeat factorno single breakthrough — just eight months of quiet arithmetic, with clean power doing most of the growing.
