Rugby, free breast screening and a sack race: 150 Ghanaians make prevention a party
On Saturday, October 10, the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium filled with about 150 people — rugby players, teachers from the Ayawaso municipalities, community delegations from Nima and Madina — for the Ghana Rugby Football Union's annual Pink October. GRFU President Rafatu Inusah opened the day with a plea: make preventive healthcare a priority. Then the real work began — free breast cancer screening and a seminar on self-examination and risk factors led by Grace Essien of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) and certified medic Wilhelmina Kassah Atutornu. After the health sessions came the sport: a T1 Rugby tournament, a lime-and-spoon race, a bottle-flip challenge and a fiercely contested sack race — with Inusah herself joining in on the field. Under the WHO's message 'Every story is unique, every journey matters,' a federation showed that a sports club can also be a clinic, if it plans one.
