Rwanda tops Sub-Saharan Africa in the world rule-of-law rankings

The World Justice Project's latest Rule of Law Index places Rwanda 40th of 143 countries worldwide — and first in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a score of 0.64. Rwanda ranked first in its region for absence of corruption, order and security, regulatory enforcement and civil justice: the everyday machinery of courts, rules and predictable government that lets ordinary people plan a life and businesses invest without fear. Indexes are not lived experience, but an independent, methodical ranking putting an African country at its region's top is a marker worth recording.

The upbeat factorcourts people can predict and rules that apply to everyone — the quiet infrastructure of a fairer life.
