Scientists created 1.5 million coral babies to rebuild Florida's reef

In a historic team-up, twelve organizations captured Florida coral's once-a-year spawning and used assisted fertilization to produce over 1.5 million embryos — plus 350 vials of frozen sperm banked for the future. The larvae are being raised at aquariums and labs, and within two years they'll go back onto the reef. It's IVF for corals, at a scale never attempted.
