Scientists found the signature of the childhood-cancer cells that resist treatment

Researchers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and collaborators built one of the largest single-cell maps of neuroblastoma — the most common solid tumor found outside the brain in children — and pinpointed the gene signature of the malignant cells tied to the worst outcomes, cells older lab models had missed. They also grew lab models of those exact cells and are sharing them with researchers worldwide, so new treatments can be tested against the real thing. Published in Cancer Cell.
