Seventy women pooled $1,000 each — and now asthma kits are headed to schoolkids in 43 Ohio districts

Breathing in asthma medicine properly is harder than it looks, especially for a child in a school corridor. A simple tube called a spacer, fitted to an inhaler, helps the medicine reach the lungs instead of the back of the throat. Now about 4,000 spacers and 4,000 inhaler carrying cases are on their way to students and school nurses across 43 Northeast Ohio school districts, through Akron Children's Hospital's school health service. The $70,000 behind them comes from Impact100 Cleveland, a women-led giving group founded in 2025: 70 women each put in $1,000, reviewed more than 93 nonprofit applications, and chose the Reid Wiley Charitable Foundation for their very first grant.

The upbeat factorseventy neighbours pooling their own money means thousands of kids can breathe easier at school.
