She cares around the clock — and now Tracey Henry is the UK's Carer of the Year

Tracey Henry, from Coleraine in Northern Ireland, looks after her daughter Ellie around the clock. Ellie has severe physical and learning disabilities, and caring for her inspired Tracey to campaign — through Ellie's fight for freedom NI — for better support for children and families in the same position. Tracey also helps her other daughter Kayla, who has disabilities, and her elderly mother, all while dealing with health problems of her own. On Thursday evening in London she was named Carer of the Year at the Carers UK Awards 2026, picked from hundreds of entries for one of the night's eleven awards, now in their second year.

The upbeat factora life of quiet, round-the-clock care just received a national thank-you.
