She traded war games for robotics in Colombia's Amazon — 6,000 kids later
Angie Tatiana Muñoz, 28, arrived in San José del Guaviare in Colombia's Amazon in 2020 and watched local kids play war games. She started teaching them robotics with a kit she'd had since her teens. Her school, Science Bot, began with 4 children; five years on it has 7 teachers, 3D printers, its own building, and has trained more than 6,000 children. One student, Zully Romero, trained at NASA's Johnson Space Center and now studies mechatronics; 16-year-old Juan Esteban Gómez built a 3D-printed robotic boat that monitors wetland water quality for indigenous communities. A bill to put robotics in the national school curriculum is moving through Congress.
The upbeat factorhope — one teacher, 6,000 futures rewritten.
