Singapore just built the most accurate clock in history
Physicists at the National University of Singapore's Centre for Quantum Technologies have built a timekeeper so steady it would take hundreds of billions of years to drift by a single second. To prove it, they built two lutetium-ion clocks and ran them side by side for 200 hours — the pair agreed to the most precise clock comparison ever made. Clocks like these quietly keep GPS, phone networks and bank transfers in sync, and may one day redefine the second itself.
The upbeat factorhumans measuring time itself — and getting better at it.
