Six crowns in one night: Peru is named South America's leading destination — again
At the World Travel Awards' South America ceremony, Peru collected six honours at once: South America's Leading Destination for the fourth straight year, Leading Cultural Destination for the eleventh time, Leading Culinary Destination for the thirteenth, and Leading Tourist Attraction for the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu for the ninth. Two wins point forward: Leading Nature Destination, taken for the first time, and Leading Contributor to Sustainable Tourism, for the second. The awards, announced by PROMPERÚ on 12 October, are voted across the travel industry and the public — a continent's voters, in effect, tipping their hats to a country whose kitchens, ruins and rainforests keep setting the standard.
