Six out of ten kilowatts: Germany’s clean power hits a new record
Renewable energy covered a record 60.7% of Germany’s electricity use in the first nine months of 2026, according to preliminary figures from industry association BDEW and the ZSW research institute — up four percentage points on last year, generating 237.5 billion kilowatt-hours, an 8.7% increase. Offshore wind output rose 19.8%, onshore wind 9.1% and solar 13.9% as new capacity came online. Germany aims for 80% renewable electricity by 2030.
