Six years old, one hour on the decks: Illumi is the world's youngest club DJ

By day, Illumi Maeda goes to school in Japan, does her homework and plays with her friends. By night — well, one very hectic night in a club in Yokohama — the six-year-old DJed for over an hour in front of a crowd and became, at 6 years and 99 days, the world's youngest female club DJ, a Guinness World Records title. She started at three, learning little by little from her mum's DJ friends in a house where, she says, there was always music and dancing: 'When I felt low, listening to Avicii would lift my spirits. That made me realise how powerful and important music can be.' There were equipment problems on the day and she was nervous, she admits — 'but I'm really glad I managed to do it.' Her plans now: festival crowds, another record attempt, and an ice-cream shop where she can DJ too.

The upbeat factora six-year-old who learned that music lifts people — and decided to be the one doing the lifting.
